Gobert scores Bell Star’s first win at Road America
|
Bell Rider Aaron Gobert won the fifth round of the AMA Superbike Formula Xtreme class, besting the field in a rain and crash marred race at Wisconsin's Road America on Saturday. The win was the first of the season for Gobert and his first both in the Bell Star and aboard his Rockwell Honda CBR 600RR.

Misting rain and wet pavement gave the riders fits during Saturday’s main event as the race was twice suspended with red flags—once for a four rider crash and once for wet conditions, which allowed teams to pit and switch to wet tires.
It was not unlike conditions at Road America last year where Gobert overcame the stormy weather and his competitors to take the win in the Supersport class.
After the re-start on Saturday, Gobert surged into the lead on lap five of eight, making an outside pass on three riders. Series leader Jake Zemke put on a final lap charge, but it was too little, too late as JZ had to settle for second while Larry Pegram took the final podium position.
Gobert’s win moved him up two notches to fifth in the season standings and snapped Zemke’s four-race win streak. Zemke still enjoys a commanding lead with six of the 11 series races completed for the season.
The series resumes in conjunction with the US Grand Prix at Laguna Seca Raceway in Monterey, Calif., July 18-20.
